HS Girls Volleyball: Amity 3, Woodland 1

Caroline DelVecchio had 13 kills, Cassidy Kirby 14 digs and Haiey Pierson 31 blocks to lead Amity-Woodbridge to a 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20) victory at Woodland Regional-Beacon Falls Sept. 22. CPTV Sports will show the broadcast premiere Thursday Sept. 25 at 7:30pm, after the newest edition of GameTime.

Amity improved to 5-1; Woodland dropped to 5-2.

HS Football: Xavier 21, North Haven 14

Mike Scherer threw a touchdown pass and ran for another score as Xavier held on to defeat North Haven 21-14 Sept. 19 in an SCC football game seen LIVE on CPTV Sports.

Xavier (2-0), ranked No. 9 in CPTV Sports’ GameTime Power Poll, trailed 14-7 at the half. Scherer scored on an 8-yard run to tie hit, then hit John Sullivan with a 57-yard TD pass to take the lead.

North Haven (1-1) drove to the Xavier 12 after a 41-yard pas from Jack Stienmann to Jeremy Imperati. But the Falcons closed with a four-down defensive stand that included two tackles for big losses and a knocked-down pass in the end zone.

HS Girls Soccer: Suffield 0, Ellington 0 (2 OT)

Gina Carroll had five saves to help Ellington preserve a 0-0 tie with Suffield in girls soccer Sept. 18. CPTV Sports was there and will show replays in upcoming days (see below).

Suffield goalie Jessica Cunningham did not have to make a save for the Wildcats (2-0-1). Ellington is 1-0-2. The match between NCCC rivals — which ended with two five-minute overtimes — does not count in the league standings; the rematch is Oct. 18.

Replays: Sunday Sept. 21, midnight and 2:30pm: Tuesday Sept. 23 10:00pm.

HS Boys Soccer: Suffield 3, Ellington 0

Colton Grob scored the game’s first goal seven minutes into the second half to lead Suffield High to a 3-0 NCCC boys soccer victory over visiting Ellington Sept. 18. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Monday Sept. 22 at 8:30pm.

Suffield (3-0) won its 38th game in a row, five short of tying the state record. Ellington (2-1) was the last to beat Suffield, Sept. 27, 2012.

The game was a rematch of last year’s Class M final won by Suffield 2-0. The Wildcats are the three-time defending Class M champions and Read the game story by The Hartford Courant’s Matthew Conyers here.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2014 on the CPTV Sports Wire: The Colorado Rockies make the New Britain Rock Cats’ their new Double A affiliate; Ledyard blanks Lyman Memorial in girls volleyball (see it Monday at 7:00pm); the CPTV crew is in Ellington this afternoon for a boys-girls soccer doubleheader vs. Suffield; A new GameTime tonight (NOTE time has been changed to 6:30pm) — lots of talk about HS football and Farmington boys soccer coach Steve Waters stops by; GameTime is followed at 7:00pm by the Indians’ recent win over Newington. HS Boys Soccer: Farmington 3, Newington 0

Evan Hughes, Jared Edelson and Alec Maccarone scored to give host Farmington High a 3-0 victory over Newington in a CCC boys soccer game Sept. 15. CPTV Sports was there and will show replays in upcoming days (check broadcast schedule).

Farmington, the defending state Class L champion, improved to 3-0. Jeff Crook had one save for the Indians. Edelson scored on a penalty kick early in the second half.

Zack Harmon had 11 saves for Newington (1-2).

HS field hockey: Stonington 7, NFA 0

Molly Crowley scored a hat trick to lead host Stonington to a 7-0 ECC field hockey victory over Norwich Free Academy Sept. 16. CPTV Sports was there and will show replays in upcoming days (see below).

Casey Williams, Meaghan Dreher, Margot Calmar and Haley Duba also scored for Stonington (2-0); goalie Cameron Dreher had three saves. Helen Heyse had 11 saves for NFA (1-1).
