UNCASVILLE - Darius Smith led the way with 21 points for the�?Immaculate-Danbury Mustangs,�? who captured their�?first state title since 2012 with a 53-43 victory against the�?Coginchaug Blue Devils�?in the Class S final.
The Mustangs carried a 27-18 halftime lead, shooting 47 percent from the field. The Blue Devils got as close as two points, but weren’t able to tie or take the lead. Smith scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half, attacking the rim at will and getting to the free throw line.
It was the three-pointer that kept the Blue Devils in the game, converting seven three-pointers on 19 attempts. Senior guard Cameron Powers finished with a team-high 12 points and six rebounds.
