MILFORD - Yellow Jackets’ senior pitcher, Laura Anderson, led her team to a 10-5 victory over Jonathan Law to remain unbeaten on the year.
Heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Yellow Jackets held a commanding 7-1 lead. But the feisty young team from Law, refused to go away. The Lawmen scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth after a lead-off double from sophomore, Skyler Bender, trimming the deficit, 7-4.
Sophomore, Kacy O’Connor, would tack on one more run for the Lawmen to pull within two in the bottom of the fifth inning.
But the defending Class L champions, East Haven, would pull away at the top of the sixth with three straight hits to load the bases bringing in two runs, before adding on another run in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Despite the loss, Johnathon Law’s head coach, Melanie Blude, was proud of her young teams effort who did all they could to mount a comeback.
“It’s nothing that was unexpected,” said Blude. “I mean, these are the type of players that I have. These are tough kids that know how to play the game. We’re just very young. So everyday we’re going to have more experience that are going to give us more confidence.”
Yellow Jackets’ head coach, Ed Crisafi, said he is confident in the seniors on his team to continue the strong play for the entire season.
“My seniors in Allie Luzzi, Laura Anderson, Kara Hanson and Ali Esposito,” he said, “have been through the wars. We try to help keep them focused at all times and by doing that, it helps the team out a lot.”
Next up for Jonathan Law (0-4), is a match-up against undefeated Hale Ray (5-0), Saturday, April 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Hale Ray. As for East Haven (6-0), they will try to remain undefeated as they take on North Branford (6-0) Monday, April 18th at Totoket Park in North Branford at 3:45 p.m.
