A Prosperous Future
No one really likes clichés. A cliché by definition betrays a lack of original thought, so I apologize for the overuse of the following term…don’t you wish that sometimes life had a reset button that you can hit to get a fresh start??? Why in Enfield, that’s just the opportunity that the community-at large is going to enjoy in 2016.
“Whatever has happened in the past, be it the last few years or the even last thirty years, all of those things have kind of been put to rest,” claimed Enfield head coach James Lyver.
James Lyver is in his first season as head football coach at Enfield and he truly believes that because the Enfield has consumed Enrico Fermi High School, the football team can assume a new identity under the Enfield Eagles brand. Lyver says throw out the 2015 stats: no losses, NEW team…all has been reset!
It is a much-needed restart for both schools as Enfield moves onto the Class LL and the CCC this school-year after absorbing Fermi. The old Raiders and Falcons combined to go 1-18 in 2015 and that’s just because Fermi notched a forfeit victory over Berlin following the Capodice scandal. The team is looking for leaders to launch Enfield into this new era. Someone who can help build a foundation by exhibiting hard work and attention to detail.
Josh Buvelot carries the most clout heading into the 2016 campaign after accepting an all CCC-Division III nod last season for Fermi. The wide receiver caught 27 balls including three touchdown receptions. He is one of eight seniors on this squad.
“Listen to the quarterback,” offered Buvelot. “Know the plays…prosper.”
Brandon D’Angelo is another Eagle that is excited for the re-brand. He missed the 2015 season because of a fractured tibia injury. He will be one of the captains for the squad when Enfield operates as a one-school town for the first time since 1972.
“It’s very important to me because it is the last time I have high school football, so I want to make it good,” intimated D’Angelo.
Here’s another cliché: the sport of football is one that should be played one game at a time. That will ring true more than ever for Lyver, a 37-year old high school history teacher at Ellington, who graduated from Enfield in 1997. He’s as Enfield as it gets: former head coach at Fermi, offensive coordinator at Enfield, and all CCC East quarterback at Enfield in 1996. If anyone should be ready to elevate the Enfield program, you would have to believe Lyver is the guy.
“To be able to link the two programs together and build it as one to have the opportunity to lead the town moving forward, our biggest hope is to make Enfield proud,” stated Lyver.
