The Wethersfield Eagles boys track team captured their first State Open title with a total of 61 points, followed by the Windsor Warriors who finished with 49 points. As for the girls side, Bloomfield dominated the competition with a final total of 72 points, followed by the Windsor Warriors who tallied up 56 points.
Eric van der Els of Brien McMahon, took home first place in the boys 1600 meter run with a time of 4:08.42, beating the previous state record set by Willie Ahearn (4:11.97) of Danbury High School in 2008.
Staples, Hannah DeBalsi (10:33.26) edged out Coginchaug’s Jessica Drop (10:37.84) in the girls 3200 meter run to capture first place. Drop (4:48.29) did capture first place in the girls 1600 meter run by defeating Wilbur Cross’ Danae Rivers (4:52.36)
