Karl Liapunov had 15 kills and Henrik Liapunov 30 saves to lead unbeaten Ridgefield High to a 3-0 sweep of Shelton in a matchup of Class L’s top boys volleyball teams May 21. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Monday May 25 at 7:30pm.
Ridgefield (19-0) was challenged in each game by Shelton (16-2), winning by game scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-22. Mark Lirgouri added seven digs and eight kills for the host Tigers, the FCIAC’s top team.
Eric Kocur had 18 kills and four digs, T.J. Nicholas nine kills and Grant Fervier seven kills for Shelton, the SCC leaders.
Staples High swept host Newington 3-0 in a high school boys volleyball match April 23. CPTV Sports was there and will show he broadcast premiere Wednesday April 29 at 7:30pm.
Staples won the first game 25-22 and pulled away with 25-14 and 25-16 wins in the last two games against the previously unbeaten Indians. The Wreckers (6-1) were coming off their first loss of the season the day before, to New Canaan.
Staples is the fifth-rated team in CIAC Class L; Newington (5-1) is rated fifth in Class M, where the Indians are the defending state champions.
Nick Hinchcliffe led Newington with nine kills and two aces. kills, 2 aces, 1 block assist (11.5 pts.) but lost 3-0 (25-22,25-14, 25-16) to Staples (Westport).
Erich Roman had 15 kills and Dan Jennings 12 as Glastonbury High defeated Xavier-Middletown 3-1 in a boys volleyball match April 21 in Middletown. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Monday April 27 at 7:30 p.m.
The Tomahawks (3-0) won by game scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-21.
Connor Johnson had 13 digs and Cody Schulz 25 assists for Glastonbury. Xavier is 2-4.
Newington High rolled to its second state boys volleyball title in three years, sweeping Oxford 3-0 in the CIAC Class M championship game June 13 at Shelton High. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Tuesday June 17 at 7:30pm.
