Ansonia routed Woodland 51-12 to finish a 15-0 season and win its 19th state title. The Chargers were voted No. 1 in the 2013 final state coaches and media polls.

It took three seasons for coach Mike Drury to get Southington into the state finals for the first time since 2006 after his hiring in 2011. Southington defeated Fairfield Prep 52-34 in the 2013 Class LL championship game.

In June 2013, North Haven High made 6-year-old Matthew Jacques, who had a congenital heart defect, a very memorable part of the Indians’ spring football scrimmage. Three months later, the youngster passed away. The players recall the emotion of that spring day.
