HS Girls Basketball: Morgan 45, Cromwell 42

Sami Ashton scored 20 points and Tori Hopkins had 13 (including three three-pointers) to lead unbeaten Morgan School to a 45-42 win over Cromwell in a game between Shoreline Conference leaders Feb. 16 in Clinton. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Thursday Feb. 19 at 7:30pm.

Morgan (19-0), ranked seventh in the latest GameTimeCT.com state media/coaches poll, defeated Cromwell (17-3) for the second time this season, but it wasn’t easy. The Huskies, who took the Shoreline regular-season title, took an eight-point lead in the second quarter before the Panthers rallied to tie it at 24 at halftime.

The game was close until the final seconds, when Morgan’s Kelsey Donaldson drew a charging call with Morgan leading 43-42. Hopkins made two free throws with 18.3 seconds left and Morgan’s defense didn’t allow Cromwell a clean look at a three on the Panthers’ final possession.

Mya Villard had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Cromwell. Read the game story from GameTimeCT.com’s Henry Chisholm here.
