•Lauren Cole - Hand-Madison girls lacrosse
The senior attacker scored 23 goals in three games last week as the Tigers completed a 15-1 regular season. She had 10 in a 19-10 win over Branford, six in a 17-6 win over West Haven, and seven in a 13-6 victory over Cheshire, the Tigers’ first win over the Rams in four years. Cole has 95 goals and 28 assists heading into the postseason. Hand is the top seed in the SCC tournament; CPTV Sports will show Thursday’s final LIVE online only at 5 p.m. from West Haven High. Hand is also the second-rated team in CIAC Class L.
•Destiny Helmedach – Coginchaug-Durham softball
With the Blue Devils trailing 4-3 in the fifth, the sophomore first baseman hit a grand slam to give Coginchaug a 7-4 victory Friday over Berlin in the CPTV Sports’ UChoose Memorial Day Weekend game as selected by fans in an online vote. Coginchaug improved to 14-5 with the win, which premieres Thursday May 28 at 3:30 p.m. (Video of Destiny’s homer and other highlights here). Destiny was batting .506 as of May 15.
•Zak Johnson – East Hampton baseball
The senior righthander struck out 14 while scattering five hits and had two hits and two RBI in the Bellringers’ 6-0 shutout victory over Hyde-New Haven May 19. The win helped East Hampton qualify for the CIAC Class S tournament.
•Reece Maniscalco – Fairfield Warde baseball
The junior righthander pitched a no-hitter against Trumbull May 19, striking out 13 in a 4-0 victory. Reese, who improved to 3-3 with a 2.08 ERA with the win, has committed to Division I Wofford (S.C.) College. He’s hitting .420 with 20 RBI.
•Mark Raymond – Joel Barlow-Redding baseball
The senior righthander pitched a no-hitter against Notre Dame-Fairfield May 18, striking out six with no walks in a 3-0 victory. Barlow has qualified for the Class L playoffs.
•Nicole Williams – St. Joseph-Trumbull softball
The junior righthander was perfect in a 17-0 rout of Trinity Catholic-Stamford May 17. She struck out 11 of the 15 batters she faced in the five-inning-game. She followed up with one-hit shutout victories over New Canaan and Danbury, striking out 13 in both wins. The unbeaten Cadets (21-0), tied for third in the latest GameTimeCT.com state media/coaches poll, were profiled on CPTV Sports last Wednesday in the “In The Huddle” segment of In Focus.
