Super 100 Classic All-Star Football Game:
Team Constitution 29, Team Nutmeg 20

Harold Cooper ran for two touchdowns and Jalen Ollie threw a touchdown pass to lead Team Constitution to a 29-20 win over Team Nutmeg in the Super 100 Classic All-Star Football game June 28 at Rentschler Field. CPTV Sports showed the game LIVE and will show replays in upcoming days (check broadcast schedule).

It was the second year of the all-Connecticut format, which was preceded by the annual Governors’ Cup matchup between Connecticut and Rhode Island all-stars.  Players for this year’s game were selected after a tryout session, which was followed by a “draft” to split the teams. Team Nutmeg was coached by John Ferrazzi of Sheehan High-Wallingford, and Team Constitution by Sean Marinan of Xavier-Middletown.

Team Constitution led 27-0 at halftime as Cooper, who will attend the University of Rhode Island after a strong career at Hillhouse High, scored on runs of 4 and 18 yards. Ollie, who will attend prep school after finishing at Glastonbury High, threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Ledyard’s Khary Carrasquillo-Childs to help make it 21-0. Andrew Meoli (Xavier) had the other TD for Team Constitution on a 13-yard run. Ollie was named Team Constitution’s co-MVP with quarterback Stephen Barmore (Southington/Yale), who was 11-for-13 passing for 113 yards.

Team Nutmeg made things interesting in the fourth quarter as Nick Roberts (Trumbull) threw three touchdown passes. With 5:30 left, Roberts hit Brandon Gauthier (Sheehan) with a 17-yard TD. Team Nutmeg received the ensuing kickoff because of an all-star game rule (winning team leading by more than 2 TDs) and made it 27-14 on Roberts’ 14-yard pass to Chris VanKamerik (Oxford) with 4:19 to go.

Team Constitution appeared to have put it away when it recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone for a touchdown. But officials ruled it was a muffed punt, and Team Nutmeg got the ball at its 20. That was followed by a Team Constitution safety when Team Nutmeg was called for holding in the end zone to make it 29-16.

Team Nutmeg wasn’t done, though. It recovered the onside kick after the safety, then Roberts hit VanKamerik again, this time for 71 yards to make it 29-20 with 1:03 remaining. After a failed two-point conversion, Team Nutmeg was unable to recover another onside kick, and Team Constitution ran out the clock.
