Top-seeded Southington High and No. 7 Amity-Woodbridge advanced to the CIAC Class LL softball finals with semifinal victories June 10 at West Haven High. Amity and Southington meet in the Class LL final Saturday June 14 at 7:00pm at DeLuca Field in Stratford.

CPTV Sports’ coverage of four CIAC baseball finals begins Friday June 13 at 7:00pm when Southington meets Amity-Woodbridge at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Middle hitter Griffin Jones had 20 kills, four blocks and four digs to lead Ridgefield High to a 3-0 sweep of Southington in the CIAC Class L boys volleyball final June 12 at Kennedy High in Waterbury. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Monday June 16 at 7:30pm.

Greenwich jumped out to a four-goal lead in the first quarter and held off two Staples-Westport rallies for a 13-10 victory in the CIAC Class L final boys lacrosse final June 14 at McMahon High in Norwalk. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Wednesday June 18 at 7:00pm
Second-seeded Greenwich, which won its first state lacrosse title, finished 20-3. Senior Luke Finneran had four goals and three assists, sophomore Will Perry a hat trick and senior Jamie Paradise two goals and three assists for the Cardinals, who led 6-4 at halftime. Greenwich led 11-6 before Staples (15-6) mounted another rally, but 12-10 was as close as the Wreckers would get. Read the game story from the Greenwich Time’s David Fierro here. The Darien High boys and girls swept the team titles in the CIAC State Open outdoor track meet June 9 in Middletown. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Wednesday June 11 at 7:30pm.

Alex Preston had seven kills and four blocks and George Phillips 17 kills and four aces to lead Darien to a 3-1 win over FCIAC rival New Canaan in the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class M boys volleyball tournament June 6 in Darien. The New Britain Rock Cats, Connecticut’s top minor-league baseball franchise, will make their final 2014 CPTV Sports appearance Friday August 29 at 7:00pm when they host New Hampshire.
It will be the seventh live Rock Cats broadcast this summer. The sixth was August 15, when the Rock Cats defeated Harrisburg, 5-1. YouTube highlights of the Cats’ 2-0 win over Bowie Aug. 12 above.
The Rock Cats, the Double A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, have produced a number of top major league players, including Torii Hunter, David Ortiz, A.J. Pierzynski, Michael Cuddyer, Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer and Yangervis Solarte. Last season, the Rock Cats featured third baseman Miguel Sano, one of the Twins’ top major league prospects. The Twins recently called up Kennys Vargas, who had been having a strong season in New Britain.
