Holy Cross-Waterbury 46, St. Paul-Bristol 38

Chelsea Houlihan had 18 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists to lead unbeaten Holy Cross-Waterbury to a 46-38 girls basketball victory over St. Paul  in a matchup of NVL leaders January 31 in Bristol. Holy Cross (16-0), which moved into the GameTimeCT.com state coaches/media poll at No. 9 with the win,  is the top-rated team in CIAC Class M; St. Paul  is atop CIAC Class S. Nonnewaug 41, Northwestern 35


Center Courtney Carlson scored 24 points and Nonnewaug High held on after Northwestern cut a 17-point lead to single digits as the Chiefs defeated the Highlanders 41-35 in a Berkshire League girls basketball game January 24 in Woodbury. CPTV Sports will show the broadcast premiere Monday January 27 at 7:30 pm. Nonnewaug improved to 11-1; Northwestern is 9-4. Mercy-Middletown 65, Career Magnet 47


Maura Fitzpatrick scored 24 points on 6-for-9 field goal shooting as Mercy remained unbeaten with a 65-47 victory over Career Magnet-New Haven in an SCC girls basketball game January 17 in Middletown. Defending state Class LL champion Mercy (12-0) is No. 2 and Career No. 10 in the latest GameTimeCT.com state coaches/media poll. Both teams are again contenders for the Class LL title. It was the second loss of the week for Career (8-2), which fell 46-26 to No. 5 Lauralton Hall-Milford Jan. 13. It was Mercy’s second CPTV Sports appearance of the season; the Tigers defeated Lauralton Hall 48-38 December 28 in a rematch of the dramatic 2013 Class LL championship game won by Mercy.

South Windsor 56, Weaver 55


Kristina Russo hit a banked three-pointer with one second left, and South Windsor High survived a technical foul call that followed as the Bobcats defeated Weaver 56-55 in a CCC girls basketball game Jan. 7 in Hartford. CPTV Sports will replay the game Wednesday January 29th. Maura Fitzpatrick scored 12 points to lead Mercy High-Middletown to a 48-38 win over Lauralton Hall-Milford in the championship game of the Mercy Christmas Classic girls basketball tournament Dec. 28 in Middletown. Ledyard 69, East Catholic 49


Olivia DelGrosso broke Ledyard High’s single-game scoring record with 35 points and had 11 steals as the Colonels defeated East Catholic 69-49 in the consolation game of the Mercy Christmas girls basketball tournament Dec. 28 in Manchester. DelGrosso shared the previous record of 33 with two other players.

Lewis Mills 46, Thomaston 42


Teagan Dunn had 18 points and 20 rebounds to lead host Lewis Mills to a 46-42 win over Thomaston in a season-opening Berkshire League girls basketball game Dec. 11 in Burlington. Abby Hurlbert had 23 points for Thomaston.
