Congrats to UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week:
Conor Harkins, Greenwich boys basketball
December 29, 2014
Conor Harkins, a sophomore guard on Greenwich High’s boys basketball team, has been voted our second UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week of the winter and 13th of the 2014-15 school year!
Conor scored 20 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Greenwich to a 60-37 win over host Woodstock Academy Dec. 26 in the second game of the first round of the Centaur Holiday Classic. Both first-round games were seen LIVE on CPTV Sports. Dec. 27, Greenwich (1-4) lost to defending Rhode Island Division I state champion La Salle 72-57 in the championship game of the tournament. Conor scored 21 against La Salle (6-0) and was named to the all-tournament team.
From the Greenwich-Woodstock game story by the Norwich Bulletin’s Marc Allard:
Conor Harkins, who finished with 20 points, was a key to open the second half when he hit a pair of 3-pointers and a jumper to turn a five-point lead into a double-digit advantage.
“I think (Harkins) solidified his place as a starter now,” Greenwich coach Pat Heaton said. “He’s a terrific young player. He can make as many (3-pointers) as you want in a game. He’s as good a pure shooter as anyone I have ever coached.”
Congrats to Conor, who joins Holy Cross-Waterbury girls basketball player RaShana Siders as our second winter UChoose Student-Athletes of the week.
