After knocking out the state’s top pitcher, Masuk-Monroe rallied for three runs in the eighth to defeat Bunnell 7-5 in a SWC baseball game April 29 in Stratford. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Saturday May 2 at 7:00pm.
Trailing 1-0, Masuk scored four runs in the sixth off Ronnie Rossomando, the 2014 state Gatorade Player of the Year who has committed to UConn. Two came on catcher Matt Romaniello’s double. Rossomando had gone 18 innings without giving up a run.
Bunnell scored three in the bottom of the sixth to tie it. Two runs scored on a throwing error, one of Masuk’s five errors.
Masuk (6-5) won its third in a row and fifth in the last six games. Bunnell (8-3) lost two in a row for the first time this season.

Shane Kertanis scored with 20 seconds left to give host Granby High an 11-10 boys lacrosse win over previously unbeaten Somers in an NCCC game April 28. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Sunday May 3 at 7:30pm.
Somers (7-1) scored three consecutive goals, including one by Stephen Astone to tie it at 10 with three minutes left. But Granby and Kertanis capitalized on the man advantage after a late Somers penalty.
Granby (6-1) had two four-goal runs, taking a 4-2 lead in the first half and a 10-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Dominic Pagano scored four goals for Granby.
Sophomore Christian Paley had four goals and Astone two for Somers. Brandon Moore had 12 saves for Granby. Chris Allen had 13 for Somers.

Marisa McLaughlin, a senior attacker on the New Milford High girls lacrosse team, has been voted our third UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week for the spring 2015 season!
Marisa scored five goals, including the game-winner with one second left, to lead New Milford to a 13-12 victory over Pomperaug April 22 in Southbury. Last season, Marisa was selected to the All-South-West Conference Division I team.

Isabel Taben scored three goals and Elizabeth Miller had two goals and three assists to lead host New Canaan High to a 12-11 girls lacrosse victory over previously unbeaten Glastonbury April 27. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Thursday April 30 at 7:30, after the new edition of GameTime.
Maddie Norman had six goals and Taylor Walker four for Glastonbury (4-1). The contest was even throughout and tied at 6 at halftime.
Catherine Granito and Kylie Murphy also had two goals each for New Canaan (6-1). Bailey Pilder had eight saves for the Rams.
Southington High’s Kendra Friedt struck out 14 in eight innings to complete a combined no-hitter as the No. 1 Knights defeated Maloney 3-1 April 24 in Meriden. CPTV Sports was there and will show the broadcast premiere Tuesday April 28 at 7:30 p.m., after a new edition of Beyond The Beat.
Friedt, returning after missing two weeks for a violation of team rules, took the mound in the second inning. Maloney took a 1-0 lead in the first without a hit against Southington starter Brenna Sarantides on a walk, steal and two bunts.
Southington (5-0), which has a 51-game win streak, scored twice in the ninth to win it. Freidt had one of three consecutive singles before Kaitlyn Paterson gave the Knights the lead with a sacrifice fly. A walk re-loaded the bases, and Dani Ahern scored after forcing an errant throw.
Maloney starter Pagie Mickens-Uliase allowed three runs and nine hits in nine innings, walking four and striking out four for the Spartans (5-3).

The junior attacker had back-to-back five-goal, two-assist games in victories over Old Saybrook (14-2) and Notre Dame-Fairfield (14-1). He has 19 goals and seven assists. The Boston College-bound senior pitchedeight scoreless, hitless innings and struck out 14 in Southington’s 3-1 nine-inning win over Maloney-Meriden that premieres on CPTV Sports Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Kendra took over in the second in relief of Brenna Sarantides to give the Knights a combined no-hitter and their state-best 51st victory in a row

The senior attacker scored five goals, including the winner with 1 second left, in a 13-12 victory over of Pomperaug-Southbury Wednesday.
• Olivia Odermatt – Cheshire softball
The senior leadoff hitter went a combined 4-for-6 with three homers and seven RBI in two games last week to help the Rams move to 7-0. The senior had two homers and four RBI in a 12-4 win over Foran-Milford Friday after going 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI in a 10-2 victory over Lyman Hall-Wallingford Wednesday.
• Michael Sands – Greenwich boys lacrosse
The junior attacker sandwiched a game-winning overtime goal between two hat tricks last week for the Cardinals, who are 6-2 and unbeaten against state competition. The defending CIAC Class L champs took three FCIAC wins, beating Ridgefield 14-13 Tuesday, St. Joseph Trumbull 8-7 in OT Thursday, and New Canaan 13-10 Saturday.
• Adam Zumerchik – Xavier-Middletown boys volleyball
The senior outside hitter had an 29 kills and 19 digs in a 3-2 win over Daniel Hand Saturday. Andre had 19 kills and 10 digs in a 3-1 loss to Glastonbury that premieres Monday at 7:30 p.m on CPTV Sports. Xavier has won three of four after starting 0-3.
Of note: Last week’s UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week, Katie Koshes of Amity softball, hit a three-run walkoff homer and struck out 11 in a 3-0 nine-inning win over Sheehan-Wallingford Thursday. The day before, Ally Gusmano had a walkoff RBI single in a 4-3 win over Mercy-Middletown.
#WIREWorthy Monday: The New Britain Rock Cats return to CPTV Sports this Friday, LIVE at 6:30. The Double-A MILB affiliate of the Colorado Rockies (NBRC) hosts Richmond (San Francisco Giants organization). CPTV Sports witnessed another return this past weekend as Kendra Friedt made her first appearance of the year for Southington softball.
